Vicinay Cadenas starts construction of its new factory in Sestao where it will transfer all its Zorrotzaurre installations

30/08/2012

Vicinay Cadenas, the world-leading manufacturer of marine and mooring chains has begun the construction of a new factory in Sestao to where it will transfer all its operations currently in Zorrotzaurre once it is finished.

The new factory, which will accommodate all the 230 current employees, will have new machinery to optimise the manufacturing processes on the single site. Currently, different processes are handled on different sites in Zorrotzaurre.

The new factory is located on a 35,000m2 site in La Mudela, next to the La Naval shipyard. The 7 million euro project will be undertaken in two phases.

The first phase will consist of a 190m x 80m industrial building for the installation of the new manufacturing machinery. The external yard next to the river will operate as a finished chain store.

The second phase will see the construction of the offices and services building.

Chain production is expected to commence in Sestao within one year. Production will be split between the old and new sites for two years. At the end of that period the Zorrotzaurre site will close.

Vicinay Cadenas’s exit from Zorrotzaurre will free up 30,000m2 and is part of the process of deindustrialisation scheduled for the coming years as a result of the new urban uses defined in the Special Plan for the area.
